Play disc golf alongside fellow Empowered Services customers and DSPs. No experience needed — the course is a gentle walk, and September afternoons are made for it.
Roseburg: Saturday, September 26 (fourth Saturdays)
Partnered with Autism Society of Oregon. Lower sound, softer lighting, open captioning, headphones and fidgets available, and a welcoming room where moving around is fine.
Free, but you need to sign up first. Registration opens about 10 days before each showing and seats fill fast. Presented by the Autism Society of Oregon and sponsored by DSP Connections and Empowered Services.

September outing checklist — new routines, shorter evenings
For DSPs, families, and caregivers. September brings school schedules back, changes what afternoons look like, and starts pulling daylight out of the evening. A few things worth checking before you commit to a plan.
Daylight — sunset moves roughly an hour earlier across September; an outdoor plan that worked in August may end in the dark
School schedule — confirm pickup, bus, and after-school timing before booking anything mid-afternoon
Transportation — bus routes and paratransit windows often change with the school year
Rain — the first wet weeks arrive; check whether an outdoor event has a covered or indoor backup
Staffing changes — new school staff and new DSPs mean new introductions; a one-page profile saves everyone weeks
Registration confirmed — spot reserved, arrival time known
Exit plan — a graceful early-leave option if it's too much today

Oregon Partners in Policymaking® Leadership Series

Oregon's flagship disability leadership program opens its new series this month. Partners builds advocacy skill and grounds it in the history of the disability rights movement — the people who won the rights we use now, and how they did it.
This is a commitment across multiple months, not a drop-in event. Sessions build on each other.
Best fit for self-advocates, family members, and people who have started speaking up locally and want to do it at a bigger table.
Ten days of events across Portland focused on belonging and community connection, welcoming neighbours of every background. Individual events vary in size and setting — check the schedule for the ones that fit.

A low-pressure environment focused on creativity and quiet productivity alongside others — write, plan, or create side by side in a calm, welcoming space.

Adaptive outdoor adventure for all abilities — kayaking, rafting, hiking, camping, and cycling with trained guides and adaptive equipment. September is one of the best months of the year on Oregon rivers and trails.
Adaptive gymnastics built around each student's goals — semi-private Sunday sessions (2:45–3:30 PM, $8 members / $10 non-members, pre-sign-up needed) plus Adaptive Open Play family times.
Streets close to traffic and open to walking, rolling, and riding at whatever pace suits you. ADA-accessible restrooms are provided at the featured activation areas along the route.
Because the route is car-free and loops, you can join and leave at any point — useful if a full route is too much.

Free guided nature and bilingual family walks with Portland Parks and the Forest Park Conservancy. Early autumn is the best walking weather of the year here. Sign-up needed; limited spots.

Portland's longest-standing arts organization for adults with I/DD — theatre, music, dance, visual art, and creative writing taught by professional artists, plus dances, cabarets, and social events. Tuition assistance covers up to 80% for about half of students.
