Last fair of the season! June 15th – Lloyd Eco District (55 and older supports is the focus, but as always, resources for all!)

AUTISM WALK IN SALEM
“Color the Valley”
Sunday, May 25, 2024
9 am – 12 pm

Join us for a family-friendly, Autism-friendly event celebrating Autistic people and the Autism community, with proceeds to benefit ASO’s programs in the Willamette Valley!

Registration includes an Event T-shirt, Face Painters, Resource Information Booths, Costumed Characters, Art Activities – plus the Autism Walk!

·       Free, local help with filing taxes is available until October 15

Many people we serve may be eligible for state and federal tax credits even if they are not required to file taxes or do not have a Social Security number.

People who don’t owe any tax can claim credits by filing a return. People can file after April 15 without penalty if they don’t owe any tax.

Summer Camps

General info:

  • Only three camps are partiallyfunded through K plan, this uses available attendant care hours and/or relief care days, see more info below, if you have any questions about this please reach out.
  • Most camps are for ages 12+, but there are exceptions, so be sure to ask.
  • There are family camping events where parents stay with their child (not funded through DD program), overnight camps and day camps.
  • Most camps have a registration/application fee (not funded through DD program) and various activities can also result in additional fees (food, clothing, supplies, etc.).  Be sure to talk to any camp you are considering about the total cost of attendance.
  • Many camps cannot support dangerous/disruptive behaviors or serious medical needs, so be sure to ask if camp is a good fit for your child before paying any registration fees.

  • Mt Hood Kiwanis Camp – (see camper guide) – Their popular overnight summer camp is full and waitlisted, but there is also a family camp option which could be a good intro to camping.
  • ACAP – The ACAP summer program focuses on learning how to access public transportation and learning practical life skills.  This is a day camp. Application fee is $160, contact them directly to inquire about availability.
  • Upward Bound Camp – Located about 45 min. east of Salem, there is space available for their Labor Day camp, see link.  Note: UBC is a “Christian-based recreational and educational camp.”
  • Seeds of Peace – not available for summer 2024

Their goal is to help families gain access to a support team of families, friends, and community networks where questions are answered, resources are shared, and needs are understood.
  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – provides 24/7, free, and confidential support.
