Why DSP work matters

Support that helps someone live with confidence, connection, and choice.

As a DSP, you help people build routines, reach goals, access their community, and experience more independence — one steady, person-centered moment at a time.

You may be a great fit if you are…

Patient and steady Reliable and kind Comfortable learning Motivated by meaningful work

No experience? No worries — we offer paid training. Many of our best DSPs come from caregiving, retail, food service, education, or simply caring for family.

Step 1 of 5
Step 1 of 5

About you.

The basics — so a recruiter can reach you and route you to the right team.

Helps us route you to the right regional recruiter.

You can list additional counties in Step 3.

Step 2 of 5

The role & your situation.

Empowered Services hires Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). What that looks like day-to-day depends on the person you support — we’ll match you to a customer whose needs fit your strengths.

One role, many ways to support. Every DSP at Empowered Services helps a person live more independently — but the daily work varies. Some days are personal care and household routines. Others are community outings, recreation, or supporting someone through a behavioral plan. We’ll get into your strengths and preferences in Step 4 so we can match you well.

Some people come to us because a family member, friend, or someone they already know has asked them to be their paid caregiver. If that’s you, we have a program built exactly for that situation.

The Empowered Choice Program is built for this.

When the person you’d be supporting (or their family) is the one who chose you, the best path is the Empowered Choice Program (ECP) — our customer-driven program where the person receiving support picks their caregiver, sets their own schedule, and works with us as a team.

The next step is for our Customer Care Intake form to be completed. Anyone can fill it out — the customer themselves, a family member, you and the customer together, or a case manager helping coordinate. What matters is that the customer’s information and their choice of you as their preferred caregiver are documented. Our team will then reach out to walk you both through onboarding.

You can still complete this DSP interest form too if you’d like — but the customer intake is what unlocks the ECP path. Tell the person you’d be supporting (or their family), or fill it out together.

Heads up: Empowered Services accepts DSP interest forms across Oregon. Current openings and customer matches vary by county. Public-facing pay range is $22–$25/hour based on role, experience, and shift type. Pre-approved overtime is available at $33/hour for select assignments.
Step 3 of 5

When & where can you work?

The more specific you can be, the better we can match you to families who need you.

In addition to your primary county from Step 1.

What we won’t ask here: documents, license details, insurance details, certification uploads, or transportation specifics. Those come later in the formal employment application if we confirm there may be a fit. This form is just so we can reach out.
Step 4 of 5

Experience & fit.

No experience? That’s okay — we offer paid training. This just helps us pair you with the right starting point.

No resume needed at this stage. Some of our best DSPs come from caregiving, retail, food service, education, or simply caring for family. We’ll ask for a resume later if it’s helpful — for now, just tell us a bit about you.
Step 5 of 5

Final readiness & consent.

Almost done. If hired, all Oregon DSPs complete state-required training and a background check. These are quick yes/no questions about your willingness — not commitments.

Empowered Services requires a high school diploma or GED for DSP positions. If you’re currently working toward your GED, that’s okay — let us know.

Oregon requires a Department of Human Services criminal history clearance for all IDD direct support staff.

Includes Oregon’s pre-service training (about 6 hours) covering Individual Support Plans, Service Agreements, mandatory abuse reporting, and DSP Core Competencies.

Oregon rules require certification within 90 days of hire. We provide paid training.

Your interest form goes directly to our hiring team. We’ll review and reach out within 1–3 business days. If nothing arrives, check your spam folder or call 503-855-3581.

Common questions.

Is this a job application?

No — this is an initial interest form. If we see a possible match, we’ll reach out and invite you to complete a formal employment application then.

Do I need DSP experience?

No. Many of our best DSPs come from caregiving, retail, food service, education, or family caregiving. Paid training is part of onboarding.

Can I support someone I already know?

Yes — that’s exactly what the Empowered Choice Program is for. If a family member, friend, or someone you support has chosen you, the customer intake form is the right next step.

What happens after I submit?

Our hiring team reviews your form within 1–3 business days. If there’s a possible match, we’ll reach out for a discovery call, then walk you through formal application and paid training.
